COUNSELOR IN TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES

*Arrive on time. Notify Kirk if you are going to arrive to camp late or need to leave early.

*Motivate children who need help getting engaged and/or interested in an activity. This is especially important during a.m. drop-off.

(e.g. soccer, tag, card games, friendship bracelets, reading storybooks, etc.)

*Keep an eye out for children who appear to need an application of sunscreen and/or require first aid.

*Assist Kirk and the Co-Director by consistently taking head counts to ensure that all the campers are present.

*When escorting children to the restrooms, depart and return as one group.

*Help distribute snack daily. This needs to be done quietly if a story is being read at the same time snack is being served.

*Help children stay focused during circle time. This may require you to sit with a chatty camper and remind him/her/them to listen attentively.

*Assist with the preparation, facilitation, and clean up of camp activities. Participate and contribute too!

*Accompany and assist Kirk and our Co-Director on Lake Anza hikes.

*Assist children in the dressing rooms at Lake Anza and ensure that they don’t leave articles of clothing or their backpacks behind.

*Notify Kirk and our Co-Director of conflicts between children. Help to resolve those conflicts with a gentle tone of voice.

*Notify Kirk and our Co-Director of potentially dangerous situations and/or anything out of the ordinary that looks, feels, or seems unsafe, such as poison oak, dogs off leash, strangers, etc. Be alert. Safety is paramount.

*Always model positive behaviors, demonstrate a good attitude, and remember to be patient, kind and empathetic.

Encourage the children to do the same for you!

*Be a good role model! Remember that you are in a leadership role. The children will be looking to you for daily guidance.

*Ask questions if something feels confusing in regard to these important responsibilities.

*Most importantly, HAVE FUN AND SEES THE DAY!

PLEASE NOTE: ALL CELL PHONES MUST REMAIN INACTIVE DURING
SEES THE DAY PROGRAM HOURS, 8:45 AM TO 4:30 PM UNLESS THERE IS AN EMERGENCY.
